Standardised Lunisolar Calendar
Kuha is a continent with [[The Two Moons of Kuha (Compendium)|two moons]]. Many peoples of Kuha track the year by the phases of Luna 1, which has a synodic period of approximately 29.6 days. For the purposes of cross-regional comparison, we will take a standardised lunisolar calendar (below) with a correction period (the “intercalary” month). By this lunisolar calendar, Kuha as 13+1 months of 29-30 days per month, with the exception of the intercalary period which has ~24 days.
Seasons
Planet H has an axial tilt the same as earth (23.5°) and an orbital ellipse equivalent to earth. This results in four seasons of equal length, astronomically defined. Each season is defined by the solar events of solstices and equinoxes, i.e. winter is the season between the winter solstice and spring equinox, spring is between the spring equinox and summer solstice etc.
Astronomical Winter runs roughly between late Month 13 until mid-Month 4; Spring between mid-Month 4 to the boundary of Months 6 and 7; Summer from the boundary of Months 6 and 7 to mid-Month 10; Autumn is from mid-Month 10 to late Month 13.
Note that this astronomical calendar defines seasons globally for Kuha, however the seasons are experienced differently depending on the region due to the main factor of latitude, and secondary factors such as elevation; e.g. the coldest period of “winter” is experienced as longer in higher latitudes because the temperature is colder for more days than warm.
